Yesterday while I was home alone eating breakfast, I started to have an esophageal attack. It’s something that happens to me every once in a great while, never with any predictability. I wasn’t eating anything unusual– eggs in a basket, sausage strips, sausage links, and sugar-free yogurt with grain-free granola. Some of the food clumped around my esophagus and wouldn’t pass. I couldn’t swallow, and I was in pain. I kept hiccupping, nearly choking as I did so.
The episode eventually subsided, and I was okay. It’s frightening, though, to have something like that happen when you’re alone. All my friends have said to try giving myself the Heimlich maneuver against the edge of a counter or something, if I have any corners. I don’t know that I have any surfaces that would really work for that, but I was okay this time.
I did have one episode where I actually lost consciousness because I was choking and couldn’t breathe. I came to on the floor, still choking; I later learned I had injured both my feet when I fell, since I’d been trying to dash to the bathroom when it happened. The swelling in my feet never fully healed, and I now need special VERY wide walking shoes and a larger size in dress shoes.
I’m thankful I didn’t have to go to the ER to have the passageway cleared. I’m also grateful I was still able to make it to work on time. I wasn’t in the best frame of mind for work after what had happened, but I did my best to be upbeat. I was even allowed to leave a half an hour early in case the rain had already started to freeze, or turn to sleet, which it fortunately had not.
It did eventually get cold enough to snow instead of rain. That wasn’t until sometime overnight, after I finally fell asleep. I tried to stay awake to see the snow start but had to call it.
The precipitation seems to have stopped for the time being. I am thankful that I don’t have to be out driving today, unless I want to be. My mom wanted to maybe see about going out to lunch, after she and my dad attend some kind of afternoon performance.
Until then, I can try and make more progress at home. I did get the bathroom most of the way clean. YAY! Just have to do the floor. The counter could use a wipe down, too, but the floor is a higher priority. I’m just really, really fatigued today and honestly pretty down.
I did have fun last night, though, finishing off the 8-episode Spanish series Smiley on Netflix. Good stuff! Stayed up maybe a little too late, but I did sleep in ’til about 10.
Trying to get my groove on with Spotify. Maybe I can risk some coffee. It doesn’t always agree with me anymore, but I may need it today. So sluggish!
Thankful for restorative time off, music, and caffeine. And for having just enough leftover money to order emergency pizza last night, with a great coupon offer, so I have plenty of leftovers today in case I stay home. The bread twists and oven-baked dipping sauce were amazing!!!
Looking forward to finishing off my holiday shopping soon. Huzzah!!! All is well, all will be well, by the power of mystical leftover pizza. I promise to eat with care, though. Rock your day, and I will try to do the same.
