What is one word that describes you?

I considered “creative,” but that alone doesn’t connote navigating the world with a dash of magical thinking, adding literal and metaphorical glitter to damn near everything whenever possible.

Not that I don’t ever have dark thoughts. I definitely do. Even those, however, border on fantastical. If I’m struggling physically or mentally, I’ll often describe my experience with melodramatic comparisons. Movies and fiction often provide inspiration.

A brush with the flu? It was like how Han Solo must’ve felt during and after Darth Vader tortured him without asking any questions, hoping to draw Luke out of hiding. Seasonal depression? “We must face the long dark of Moria.”

My bedroom especially but really my entire apartment is an explosion of color designed to keep despair at bay.

I’ve included a selfie I took on St. Patrick’s Day, copied into a Canva graphic I created tonight. I try to celebrate every holiday I can. Pi Day? Pizza and a Hershey’s Pie. AND today’s the equinox. I spent a large chunk of it finishing reading Magic Lessons by Alice Hoffman. Definitely an enchanting way to while away an afternoon.
