On Day Two, we drove up to Door County.
No trip to Door County is complete without stopping at Renard’s Cheese.
My mom bought some chocolates, and kiddo and I sampled cheeses and spreads and balsamic vinegars and such.
Then, we headed toward Egg Harbor.
I had read about the Big Easy Cafe and wanted to check that out. In honor of the occasion, I wore my coffee and beignets Mardi Gras beads that I had found online years ago, for my French Quarter decor. The employee who rang up our order was so delighted by the beads!
I had the Louisiana Skillet, which you see below, along with the order of beignets we split. My mom ordered a quesadilla, which turned out to be ENORMOUS. My daughter I think just had a beignet and a chai. I had a chai, as well. Mom got the quesadilla remnants boxed and wasn’t up to a beignet. I have one left yet. You get three with every order.

Connected to the cafe is a satellite location of a local bookseller whom I adore. So we had to check that out, too. Or at least, I did. I resisted temptation, but I found some very cool things, like this:

As my daughter would say, we stan Snoop Dogg. After all, he’s the inspiration for my Instagram and X handle, Mizzieshizznell.
They also had a Neil Gaiman book I have read but don’t own (sad day), and a book by Alix E. Harrow (author of The Once and Future Witches) which I have yet to read. Even just browsing books is fun, though.
Following the cafe and bookstore, we browsed a local market, where I saw some Kombucha with the most adorable packaging, and we found white wine in bottles shaped just like a fairly sizable fish, for sale by the display of fish fillets.
Then, we stopped at Fat Louie’s, and browsed their selection of infused olive oils and balsamics, and their other items. I think that was where we found those paper glasses you put on to make shapes out of light? The cashier waved us over to the “open” sign. I saw tiny bat shapes all over it, made from the light it emitted, as I had Halloween glasses pressed to my eyes.
I think from there, we browsed a furniture store, because my mom thought it was something else, and a home decor and gift shop, where we found many things that delighted us, including a bird journal that I photographed in case we could maybe order it from somewhere and give it to my dad in the future. It’s for observing your bird feeders, marking who visits, etc.

That marked the last of our Egg Harbor browsing. We drove further up, to Fish Creek.
We visited the Confectionery, so kiddo could pick up some candy. Small things. Then, we walked to The Lake People for souvenir t-shirts. She (daughter) found a really cute one in her size, and a matching sticker.
We browsed a couple more places, including a music store, where someone was testing a guitar. Then, we drove back home.
We stopped at Bay Shore park on the way and looked at the bay. Kiddo and I were too tired to get out of the car, but my mom stepped out, slipped out of her sandals, and dipped her toes in the water. Some braver souls were swimming.
When we got back into town, everyone was exhausted. Kiddo and I eventually got some Taco Bell. We both wanted to try the new Cheez-Its menu. Somehow it wasn’t until that moment that it dawned on me that the new logo in the app was supposed to be a Cheez-It.
I didn’t want to eat during the Tollywood movie, so we streamed some Steven Universe first since I had always heard such great things about it online.
We finished watching RRR after that and called it a night.
Burritos for breakfast the next day, because there were T-Bell leftovers.
Moving on to Day Three! See you on the next post.
Oh, we got Dunkin twice, too, because she had some points to burn and was nearly at a free drink. The day before she went back, we got a freebie. She got iced coffee, and I had a refresher. Nearly forgot about that!
