What book are you reading right now?

Edited by Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling.

Terri Windling’s The Wood Wife was utterly genius, so I was pretty excited to try out this collection of Young Adult vampire tales. According to the intro, the collection runs the gamut in terms of genres and cultural influences. Even the intro was fun to read! Loads of great historical background information.

There’s some Cassandra Clare and Holly Black in it, too. Also a selling point.

I’ll admit I added this one to my Kindle library then forgot I had it.

Last night, however, I decided to see what was lurking there, and rediscovered it. I read I think the first two stories. It was a little late, and I was too tired to delve further.

The two negative reviews I encountered both seemed to take issue with the sheer volume of stories. One reader isn’t a fan of the short story form to begin with, while the other thought THAT much vampire fiction back to back was a LOT. So, I’m taking heed and plan to pace it. But I’m guessing I probably love vampire lore more than they do.

I’ll keep y’all posted on what I think, especially as I get to the stories by authors with whom I’m more familiar.

[Not my photo, and not cover art from the book… I just thought it fit the vibe nicely.]
