I had another great experience with Spotify’s AI Daylist feature. This time, it may have been riffing off a playlist I made, myself, inspired by how I perceived the vibe of True Blood. And yes, for the curious, I read the books, too. But I prefer the series. Same as Vampire Diaries.
Right now, I’m listening to the one *I* made, entitled Goin’ Down South. Not sure if I shared that one here already? It’s an elaboration on a mix CD I made before streaming had really taken off. Before Spotify. Sadly, Robert Pattinson’s “Never Think” isn’t on Spotify, so I had to adapt, and use a cover. There were a few other pieces I didn’t find, but the bulk of them were available.
Anyway, the daylist was called something like Southern Gothic Gritty Saturday Night. I loved it enough to save it, though I did beef it up with extra songs. Perhaps not surprisingly, there were more than a few songs from various seasons of True Blood.
Here’s the new one. A word of caution for the easily offended… one of the band names may definitely raise some eyebrows. You’ll know which one when you see it.
Didn’t get a lot of writing done last night, though I tweaked a couple things this morning. I woke up about an hour before the alarm was due to go off and couldn’t get back to sleep and am very, very cranky LOL. At least I’m aware of it?! Does that make it better, or worse?
Mostly just listened to music and geeked out about playlists after I got home from work. All work and no play… So we take breaks here and there.
I almost feel like I’ve written myself into a corner. The primary plot point that’s more action than character development slowly unfolding, just came up. Not sure what I want to do from here? It may require a better understanding of police procedures and the tests coroners run, than what I have.
I can just imagine the sort of fun Google searches all that would require. I don’t believe for a second any of that would put me on a government watchlist or anything, but I’m still leery of what I might see. I’ve already had to search something like “What happens when there’s a murder on a train?”
The results weren’t super specific. Whatever city the train is in at the time, once they reach a station, if they haven’t already, that area takes jurisdiction and sends a coroner. It’s my guess that in the case of obvious homicide, police involvement would be immediate.
I’ve got just a little more time until I’m due to head to work, but I have some time off coming up, after today.
I wonder if WordPress would allow me to paste in links to two separate playlists? I’m gonna try. Here’s the original.
Yeah, it did work! Awesome. So, apart from the ungodly-long sugar/chocolate/honey/candy themed playlist I made recently, and my standby That Wasn’t Wine (Vampire Vibes), these two will probably be in heavy rotation as I work on Mystery Train.
OH I almost forgot… the namesake of this post. I read in a New Orleans travel guide that Creole Townhouses in the French Quarter sometimes had architectural features on their cast iron details, about the balconies and such, known as “Romeo Spikes.”
These were in place to discourage any unapproved suitors from shimmying up the ironwork to secretly rendezvous with their beloved. How cool is that?! Not that I’d discourage mutual romance of any flavor, but I love that the buildings have that kind of history behind them.

I don’t think that’s a sideview of a row of townhouses, but it gives you an idea of what the ironwork would look like. That building looks a lot bigger, but the wraparound porch is also similar to those found in some of the fancier Creole Townhouses.
Rock your Sunday! And watch out for Romeo Spikes!
