SO I did fall off the gratitude bandwagon for a good bit, after posting. I vented to kiddo, and wrote in my journal. Somehow, I became distracted by a Snapchat notification. One of those rando recommended video ones.

I didn’t open the video, but I did open the app. It had been a long time since I played with the filters, just for fun, to show my friends. The very first one (which I didn’t share here, because it’s a short reel, not a still), was made to look like the video to “Take On Me,” complete with the song playing in the background.

MEMORIES! UH! I was all of seven when it was first released, but I remember seeing the video on MTV. We didn’t have cable, but I could watch it at friends’ houses. My homelife was a bit strict in some senses.

But yes. And this, recently after a high school friend had posted a meme asking what songs remind people of him. I said, not so much a specific song, but anything by Dead Can Dance that isn’t in English. Because I thought there was a chance we’d listened to them together at some point; those songs not only recall that time period for me, but also kind of bridge our present similar spiritual beliefs.

A mutual friend of ours chimed in that she was pretty sure we had the three of us listened to “DCD,” as the OP called them, once he replied. She’d had a very impressive music collection. Many hours vibing to music.

Between that, and just the fun of experimenting with the filters, seeing myself in different colors, different shapes, different textures, I cheered up.

Then, I kept reading my book about haunted New Orleans, at LAST finding something I could adapt for the next part of my story. It worked out to blend a bit of NOLA lore, with backstory of my oldest vampire character, and further establish his relationship to a character new to this fictive world.

I did some more digging beyond just using the information from the book. This has proved invaluable, as it seems a lot of these stories have very differing perspectives told by various sources. I try to have my character relate as many as possible, with an aim of authenticity.

Anyway.

Good night!
