Vampires. Queer vampires, bisexual vampires, polyamorous vampires. Very lust-driven vampires.
Reading and writing and listening.
Reading:
Reread Lost Souls recently, on ebook. In spite of some VERY tough times a-comin’ financially, I had found a brand new paperback copy for under $10 and ordered that today. Because it feels like a favorite, along with Holly Black’s Tithe. So I really wanted a physical copy.
Lost Souls has a strong Rock n Roll vibe. Multiple musician characters.
Last night and this morning, I read two short stories of Poppy Z. Brite’s from Wormwood in which Ghost and Steve from Lost Souls reappear. I think the Wormwood intro states this may have been Brite’s first collection of fiction? So maybe the Ghost/Steve content was written first there, and isn’t merely set before the action of Lost Souls.
Either way, it was effing fabulous. No vampires, but still eerie in a goth-adjacent sort of way. And I love Ghost. He’d be an awesome friend to have. Creepy, but in the best possible way, with his otherworldly intuition.
Writing:
Working on what will hopefully be a novel-length piece about the characters from Wishful Sinful and Hyacinth House. Both available on Amazon. It may still need further editing, even if I’ve been combing through it piece by piece along the way, after having finished each fresh section. But I am almost at 30,000 words. It features vampire musicians, on vacation, and hiatus from their band, after recent losses. They may yet return to the stage, in some fashion.
Rock n Roll:
I just finished putting nearly all of my streaming services on longish holds. Will contemplate fully canceling once the pauses end, depending on how the chips fall between now and then. I was already paid up by today, on all of them, so I’ll have until the next billing cycle to watch stuff, at least. We’ll see. I haven’t been SUPER into TV/Movies lately, with the exception of catching Hit Man on Netflix.
But I did keep Prime, with my AMC+ add-on, for whenever AMC’s Interview with the Vampire starts up again. I’m eager to see what happens next there. Will they showcase Lestat’s rockstar era? What will THAT Lestat look like, sound like, as a musician? DAMN!
And I’m not presently willing to part with Spotify Premium. So many playlists, so little time. I have a matched set of vampire and werewolf playlists that began as 69 tracks long, each, but I found another vampire song I wanted to add. Didn’t want to part with anything already on it, even if a few are slightly off-theme.
Like EURINGER’s “Do You Kiss Your Mama with That Mouth?” But I just really, really love that one. Vampire mouths are pretty iconic. That’s how I justify it.
I also have some goth-flavored playlists, always good for dark fun and vampy inspiration, and two that riff off the vibes from the infamous True Blood series. I’ve shared links to them recently, here. One made my me, and one from Spotify’s Daylist, with a bit of tinkering here and there.
So, yeah. Undeath. Great way to wrap up the day.
