Remember how I said yesterday that nothing I had to do today precluded me staying up a bit late to read, write, and vibe out to rain music?

I blew off checking in on my self-care app before sleep, because it was late, and I figured if I didn’t get any credit for the last few things I did before bed, I wouldn’t mind.

BECAUSE I didn’t check my app before sleep, because I had already reset the alarm on my phone and didn’t need to do that, I never realized my phone was in the living room, by the PC.

I never heard my alarm.

Slept til almost noon and woke up with the WORST sleep hangover.

Did not feel rested at all. Even with having used my CPAP the whole time.

Have since had a cup o’ tea, and breakfast. Now, I’ve got that full-belly fatigue. I did go through my cleanish clothes and hang up what can be worn another time, so they’re all easy to find. Hopefully, the closet will work some hoodoo on the small amount of wrinkles.

I’ve heard misting clothing with water and pulling it taut helps, too. And someone mentioned an ANTI-WRINKLE SPRAY?! I am very ironing-averse. May have to look into that at some point.

Somewhere, I do have a spray bottle for water, which we had been using on plants, and briefly and inconsistently, to try and train the cats, back when all of us lived here. Two cats, and kiddo and me.

So, now that the day feels askew, what am I going to do? HEY that rhymed.

Debating a library run. Reading some poetry at the library is always soothing. And if I can manage it, a trip thru the grocery store would be helpful. I’m down to eggs, butter, bacon, bread, some grapes that may be mostly overripe by now, soda, and jam. Oh, and tea and honey. Not nothing, I know. But more options would be nice.

I was able to make a very nice breakfast.

I had also been able to pick up some fancy bagged tea, with a coupon. It’s not super expensive without it. Just one of the generic brands, but of the more “top shelf” variety. Private Selection. Generic, but really good. Black tea with rose petals.

Got a coupon for fruit preserves just plain generic brand, but those are also available under the Private Selection label, for a bit more. I’d like to try the Private Selection flavors eventually, and see what I think.

And some of what I ordered kiddo was already delivered. I hadn’t noticed the update to the shipping info. She’ll have to check their packages mailbox when she gets home. I mentioned it to her on one of her work breaks. I’m excited to hear what she thinks, and she’s excited to open the package!

Here’s one of the moody-looking open-source train photos I considered for cover art for Mystery Train. I have more, but this one’s kinda fun. The rest are either more monotone or actually black and white.

I love the aesthetic of this one, but it would be tricky to add text on top of it, since parts of it are so light, while others are so dark. And I’d have to crop it, to make it vertical rectangular, rather than horizontal. Unless I used it as a band image across the middle of the cover, and did the title and my name against a basic black background. Hm.

May have to play around with that.

I like the image I have now, for the working cover, but it does feel a little empty. Maybe because it’s just train tracks.

Hm, mkay, so I nipped into Canva for a moment and made this:

I feel like maybe that gives stronger murder mystery vibes? Especially with the smeared finger marks on the glass. And it does look a little more professional, IMO.

Also, that font, it was originally something about a flight delay? Because it’s made to look I guess like the lettering on the screens you see in airports? Feels more train-y.

Still debating if I need to alter covers to add the series name, and so on, or if I will just subtitle each shorter piece after the book-length one it follows.

Things to ponder! Have a good day!
