Joey is back home. He had a wee “hindquarters bath,” and some lunch, and tuckered himself out having run around restless while still being very physically awkward from the sedation still wearing off. So, he’s ready to rest.
Kiddo said the vet sounded much more optimistic when they called back to say he was all good to go, ready to come home with them. Not that this won’t still be a lifelong issue, because it will.
And they did discover his back legs and such are very weak. Possible birth defect, which could be contributing, as well as his being born without a tail. But I don’t know that he’s actually a Manx? So that could be a birth defect, too.
The vet hinted that he could have been a bit inbred, either due to negligence in keeping the animals separate, or intentionally, to produce more tailless cats. HOPEFULLY that’s not the case. They got him from someone her boyfriend’s mom knew through Facebook, but not well.
Regardless, he responded VERY well to the treatment, physically.
They’re waiting to find out if he will need different wet food. But he definitely needs wet food. They’d been getting him some kind of possibly prescription or very vet-recommended food, already.
And soon, he’ll have a cat tree to play with.
Maybe I should get one for Unity, to live out her sunset years in style. I do have a specific empty corner in the living room where one would fit nicely. She’s almost 14 and a half, and Happy, living with my parents, is 13 and a couple months.
The three of them (kiddo, bf, and bf’s brother) are still all thinking they will put him down, if he gets so blocked up again, he would need professional intervention, since the poor guy was so terrified. But we’ll just have to wait and see how he does from here. And they I am sure will spoil him as best they can, with however much time he has left.
