I started this masterpiece last night.

Yes, it does borrow a little from some of my other playlists (not like anyone other than me might be bothered by this… I did try to mix and match and not borrow heavily from any of them).

I suppose the main thing is that I didn’t take too much from my Smoke and Crows playlist, since that one is also book-related. But someone on tumblr had commented that they could see David from The Lost Boys being down with “Don’t Fear the Reaper.” I felt the point had definite merit!

So, the two lists share that. The HIM cover. But I don’t think I’ll write any scenes of Dorian (my David-inspired character) from Rock is Undead performing that track, as I did in the other book, with Nyven Ash, MMC of Smoke and Crows.

(Again, Smoke and Crows has an ampersand in the title, on Amazon, in case you decide to look for it… but I think those do funky things to the html coding here.)

Without further ado…

There it is. In THEORY I could stay up late enough to give the whole thing a listen-through. But we’ll see. Either way, I had fun making it. And every little bit of creative self-promotion helps. Sharing the link around.

Also posted my selfie of me mixed in with the characters from The Lost Boys with a Snapchat filter, on tumblr. That got a comment already. Fun stuff!

Covers and originals of songs FROM The Lost Boys, a song by The 69 Eyes ABOUT The Lost Boys. Songs by The Doors, which I either used as titles, or, in one case, which is subtly referenced as part of Velveteen Slumber’s set, at the first concert.

“L.A. Woman” because the story starts in Los Angeles, and because the lyric “Mr. Mojo Risin” suits the blues tracks, as well as the idea of “vampire mojo” and “lead-singer mojo” mentioned in the series. And yes, I know it’s an anagram for Jim Morrison. Former Doors FANATIC. Still enjoy them.

Also used a cover of “Strange Days” from the movie of the same name (which I loved, when it was first released, but haven’t watched in many years… killer soundtrack, regardless). That one, I just liked the sound of.

I really wanted to have at least one Sleep Token song in the mix. Hence, “Sugar.” I know Vessel didn’t write it, but I ADORE the vibe, and all its spicy implications.

Heavy on the Deftones, and a cover of one of my fave Deftones songs. “Sextape” is on there, too. Don’t knock it ’til you hear it. It’s incredibly romantic tonally and lyrically.

I even found a song which TOTALLY fits what’s happening in Mystery Train right now, where I left off. “Some Dreams You Never Wake Up From.”

Also included Eddie Vedder performing “Dream a Little Dream,” accompanied I believe by ukulele.

Since Dorian, Haven, and Jared feed by imparting dreams or visions in their victims, and Haven seems to be locked in a dream or nightmare.

I’ve heard it a zillion times, but I added The Cure’s “Fascination Street;” it suits the energy of Dorian, Jared, and Haven hitting the LA streets, on the hunt for blood, and a good time. But at least it’s a different version of the song, than the one from the album.

One romantic Peter Murphy song, since I don’t think there’s any Bauhaus on there. Felt like he or Bauhaus deserved a nod. One of the godfathers of goth.

A smattering of Nine Inch Nails.

A hardcore cover of “Pony.”

That might also be on my Smoke and Crows playlist, actually. But I think it’s just those two.

Some other things that are goth or goth-adjacent, many of which throw off spicy vibes.

A song or two referencing ghosts or hauntings in their titles (even if they may be metaphorical).

A bit of Black Veil Brides.

Two songs about polyamory, cuz reasons.

M/M/F and M/F/M.

I think THREE covers of “Cry Little Sister.”

There are MANY of them out there, but I picked three I liked the best.

The original is definitely a classic, as well, and maybe a bit better than all of them, but I wanted something I hadn’t overplayed, to keep this playlist feeling a bit fresher for myself.

A gothy-sounding cover of a Britney Spears song, of all things! Sung by a dude.

“Kill of the Night” by Gin Wigmore, which I first encountered as the theme of a series that was sadly cancelled before it reached a proper finale. Zombies.

Then, partly because the train in Mystery Train was headed to New Orleans, and partly to help fold in the original songs by The Doors (versus covers of them), I added some blues. And Hendrix’s “Voodoo Chile.”

And one piece by October Noir, because I couldn’t leave them out.

I considered Type O Negative, but of the songs that I haven’t heard many, many times already, I didn’t encounter any that felt right. But, they’re represented in my other playlists, for sure.

Here’s a lil somethin’ spooky I found in a photo collection entitled October Vibes, speaking of October Noir, who sound a heck of a lot LIKE Type O.

Looks like daylight, so maybe not the MOST vampire-appropriate, but even Angel from Buffy the Vampire Slayer managed an especially foggy/overcast day, in one episode.

So, enjoy the playlist, and check out the Rock is Undead. 18+

Wishful Sinful and “Hyacinth House” out now. Mystery Train to follow.
