Moonage Daydreams

Moonage Daydreams
Daily writing prompt
How do you unwind after a demanding day?

Not my photo, but it’s super cool, isn’t it?

I chose it for a playlist I just finished for my daughter, who loves The X-Files, and who saw Signs growing up and apparently unbeknownst to me developed a bit of a fear of alien abduction. But it’s a meme between us now that she’s older and has outgrown the fear.

Lately, I unwind with copious music and writing, just kinda zoning out with headphones on, sitting at the PC, slipping into the space within my mind.

I made some potential connections at the art show and got some tips, as far as places to submit my art in the future.

Then I got drive-thru.

At some point today, I heard the Beastie Boys’ “Intergalactic” and thought BAM… kiddo needs an aliens/space themed playlist to head into summer and her birthday.

Last night I had found out an influencer we both like has a poster with UFO’s on it. I had told her I maybe had a theme for her bday gifts this year LOL… previously, maybe for her birthday, I had given her neon plastic earrings showing a cow caught in the tractor beam of a UFO (she also loves cows).

A romance book club company I know of also has alien romance sticker packs lol… they are super cute.

As long as we’re nerding out a little about space and aliens, and music, I discovered that when you play Meco’s version of the Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band song (which is UBER disco), the progress bar at the bottom of the screen resembles a blue lightsaber. SO COOL!!!

I honestly forgot how space-driven Bowie lyrics are. Lots of Bowie on there, but other fun stuff, too. Starts with “Intergalactic” and ends with the title track from Bowie’s Blackstar album.

This has also given me thoughts about a spacey interpretation of No Place in this World. Not sure if I want to explore that? I may and see where it goes. No rule saying I have to use everything I come up with, anyway.

OH and I also submitted to a poetry contest in the VERY wee hours of last night/this morning. They accept simultaneous submissions. Even better, they’ll still consider your work if it’s published somewhere else AFTER you send it their way, as long as it wasn’t already published somewhere ahead of time. AND promoting your work on social media on your own doesn’t count against you.

Going to poke at that collection some more and see what more I can add to it, to bring it up to the page count max for one of the possible chapbook presses I have in mind. I’m looking into other places for chapbooks, as well. Wish me luck!
